Budget Design, Getting The Room You Want
Find The Room You Want
Check out design magazines and find your dream room. This will be our guide for our budget design.
Decide On A Budget
Figure out how much you have to spend on each room. It is better to have one completed room then pieces scattered around numerous rooms. Do the room you spend the most time in first.
Measure Your Room
Measuring your room is extremely important when working on a budget. Buy some graph paper and draw your floor plan out. Each block equals one foot. This can help you at the furniture stores to buy the right size and amount of furniture. Measure each piece of furniture and put it on the floor plan. Just draw approximate shapes and you will get an idea on how it will all fit. Bring your tape measure and digital camera with you. You may want to take pictures of potential purchases and refer to them often.
Research-The Key To Putting It All Together
Research will help you focus and stay focused. Find the used furniture stores and bargain stores. Map them out. These can be invaluable. Get to know the store owners. Many times they will give you a call when they get new things in or specific articles. One store I work with will call me when they get entire rooms in. You may not find your furniture the first visit, so keep a good relationship with the store owners.
Color and Style-Your Guides on a Design Budget
Decide on your style and colors. But be open to other styles and colors especially if you find the perfect furniture in different colors.
Shopping on a Budget
Now you are ready. Bring your dream room pictures, tape measure, camera and graph paper. Have fun! You are creating your personal space.
