Advice on choosing paint colors

Step 1

Consider the size of the space and does it connect to another space. Connecting spaces should be the same paint color.

Step 2 -Size matters

Large and small spaces get treated differently. Dark colors look better in a large space with good lighting. Small spaces such as as a small apartment need lighter and similar colors to create the illusion of a larger space. Dining rooms and powder are the exception for dark colors. In those rooms go for color over boring or bland.

Dark paint works even in a small dining room

Step 3 - Accent wall do's and don'ts

The accent wall may be all the rage on HGTV but in reality they really cut a small space up making it look smaller. Accent wall look good on a fire place wall or behind the headboard in a bedroom
